Pre-Medical Early Assurance Program

To qualify for the Pre-medical Early Assurance program with Penn State Hershey College of Medicine, students must apply and be admitted to ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥app by Oct. 31 of their senior year of high school. It is strongly encouraged to apply and submit materials by Oct. 15 to ensure that a decision can be made prior to Oct. 31.

PSU-Hershey Medical School & Guthrie Healthcare System, Robert Packer Hospital

Program Criteria

  • Students must be a resident of a rural and/or medically underserved area of Pennsylvania.
  • Students must demonstrate a sincere interest in primary care medicine in a rural and/or medically underserved area of Pennsylvania.
  • Students must rank in the top ten (10) percent of their high school graduating class.
  • Students must have completed:
    • Three years of natural sciences including biology, chemistry and physics.
    • Mathematics through trigonometry (calculus is recommended).
  • Students' experiences in human service activities will be considered in determining admission to the program.

Following admission to ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥app, qualified candidates will be contacted by the Center for Health Sciences and Student Success to complete secondary application and begin the interview process. Once secondary applications are submitted back to the health Sciences and Student Success Center, candidates will participate in three interviews, one at ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥app (Dec.), one at Guthrie Healthcare System, Robert Packer Hospital (Jan.), and finally at PSU-Hershey Medical School (March). Final decision of accepted applicants will be made by PSU-Hershey.

Criteria for continued participation in the BS/MD Early Assurance Program and acceptance to the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine:

  • Students must accumulate a minimum GPA of 3.5 in biology, chemistry and physics courses and an overall GP A of at least 3.5 by the end of their junior year of college. Students must complete the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥app Premedical Core of courses, as well as all requirements in their chosen major(s).
  • Students will complete their 7th or 8th semester in college at an approved clinical site.
  • Students must demonstrate continued interest in primary care by volunteering in human services, selecting humanistic courses, and participating in a variety of extracurricular activities 1hat involve interaction with other people.
  • Students must meet specific criteria per year during their ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥app education. These standards are included in the students signed contract with PSU-Hershey.
